Bernalillo
T&T Supermart
T&T Supermart is a family-owned Bernalillo grocery store known for everyday essentials, fresh meat, a visible butcher department, and personal service.
T&T Supermart Brings Generations of Grocery Experience to Bernalillo
Some grocery trips are purely practical. T&T Supermart is the kind of place people come to know.
T&T Supermart in Bernalillo is a family grocery store where customers can ask questions, find the basics, and talk with people who know the community.
T&T itself began in 1981 when brothers Joe and Jack Torres started the store with help from their father, Hilario J. βLaloβ Torres. But the Torres family grocery story reaches back decades before T&T. Lalo had already spent many years operating a grocery store in Bernalillo before his sons continued the family trade.
With the earlier Torres grocery store and T&T's history together, the family is approaching a century of grocery experience in Bernalillo. The family history helps explain what the store tries to offer today: good food and everyday essentials, reasonable value, and someone customers can actually talk to when they need help.
A Local Alternative to the Typical Corporate Grocery Store
If most of your grocery shopping happens at a large corporate store, you probably know the routine. The building is huge. There are endless aisles and endless choices. You may find six versions of the same thing, but finding a person who can answer a simple question can be another story.
The store is smaller and easier to navigate. You can come in for produce, dairy, frozen foods, pantry staples, drinks, meat, and the other essentials you need for an ordinary grocery run without turning the trip into a major event.
You are not trying to make your way through a massive store just because you need ingredients for dinner or a few things for the week. You can get what you need and talk to people who are actually part of the store and the community.
You Can Actually Ask Someone for Help
At T&T, asking a question is encouraged.
If you are looking for an item and do not see it, ask. If you want to know whether something is in stock before making the trip, call. If there is something you would like the store to carry, the staff can look into it and follow up with you.
Customers deal directly with the people who work in the store.
People can recognize one another, talk about what is happening around Bernalillo, and approach someone when they need help.
A Bernalillo Grocery Store That Knows Its Community
T&T is designed first and foremost to serve Bernalillo and the surrounding communities and Pueblos.
You will find it in a familiar part of Bernalillo across from the Range Cafe, serving people who might otherwise have to travel farther for everyday groceries. The store's role goes beyond convenience. It remains part of the community it serves.
For many families, T&T has already become that kind of place. People have been shopping here since they were children. Others discover the store because they want a smaller local option and then keep coming back because the experience is personal, straightforward, and welcoming.
People who have shopped there for decades give T&T a working knowledge of what local customers use a neighborhood grocery store for.
A Meat Department That Has Become a Destination of Its Own
The butcher department is one of the biggest reasons customers come through the doors.
Meat is a major part of the business, and the butcher department is one of the clearest things that separates T&T from an ordinary grocery run.
There is an open window into the butcher area where you can see the team working. Customers come in for everyday meat purchases as well as larger orders, and the department has developed a loyal following of people who return specifically for the meat.
Customers do not need to know every cut or have perfect terminology before asking a question. The counter gives shoppers a place to ask about cuts and orders.
If you are planning a larger meat purchase, you can also call the store and ask to be connected directly with the meat department to place an order.
Everything You Need Without the Big Store Experience
T&T does not offer six brands of every product on the shelf, and that is not the reason people come here.
People come for the groceries and staples they actually need, along with an experience that is harder to find in a massive store.
That includes fresh produce for dinner, milk and other refrigerated basics, frozen foods, pantry items, drinks, weekly grocery essentials, a real butcher department, and people you can ask for help.
And if there is something a little different you are looking for, you can ask about that too.
You can make a normal grocery run here and still get help from people who know the store.
A Family Grocery Store Still Looking Forward
After decades in business, T&T is not standing still.
Joe Torres continues to lead the store with his wife Orlinda, while their daughter Aurora Torres and her husband, Rich Wilkins, are becoming increasingly involved in the family business. Rich currently serves as assistant store manager.
The store is also working on modernization, including improvements to its refrigeration equipment intended to make it more reliable and energy efficient.
